[ She winces. just a bit. and gives him the slightest pout. ]
Of course I had considered it before. But things have changed so rapidly in such a short time for you I assumed this sort of thing would naturally change as well.
I don't think it's unreasonable to be pleasantly surprised.
[he reaches inside his pants pocket and pulls out a set of keys that he deposits between them, on the table. she can recognize them as his (their former) apartment's keys]
Here. I doubt you'll need the place itself, but if that ever changes...
I suppose it wouldn't matter. Whether you simply don't come home, or if the situation arises that we return to the lives of our visions, we would find ourselves separated regardless.
[ She puts the keys down to hold her hand out towards him, palm-up, instead. ]
Re: Pre-Boarding/Staying Behind
You're making a face. Even like this, you make the same expressions as you used to.

[ Pours him a cup of tea, finally, and hands it over. ]
Are you going to miss me?
Re: Pre-Boarding/Staying Behind
Obviously, yes.
Re: Pre-Boarding/Staying Behind
... Is that so? I hadn't expected it...
Re: Pre-Boarding/Staying Behind
Re: Pre-Boarding/Staying Behind
[ A thoughtful beat of silence, and she pours herself a cup as well. ]
Perhaps it makes me both selfish and a fool, but I feel... happy. That my presence has left enough of an impression on you to be missed.

Re: Pre-Boarding/Staying Behind
The only foolish thing about it is that you hadn't considered it before.

Re: Pre-Boarding/Staying Behind
Even if I don't consider myself that person anymore, the attachments are still here.
[finally taking a sip]
Re: Pre-Boarding/Staying Behind
[ a pause. ]
... But I'm glad to hear it. You're very dear to me.
Re: Pre-Boarding/Staying Behind
... But I'm glad we're on the same page, in a way.
Re: Pre-Boarding/Staying Behind
Getting you to say it plainly is a great victory for me.

Re: Pre-Boarding/Staying Behind
Now why are you giving me these... of course I don't mind caring for it while you're on the ship, but...?
Re: Pre-Boarding/Staying Behind
I have no one else to leave it to.
Re: Pre-Boarding/Staying Behind
When you do something like this it feels as if you don't intend to come back again.
Re: Pre-Boarding/Staying Behind
I don't think there's anything left for me to do back here.
Re: Pre-Boarding/Staying Behind
... I see. If that's how you truly feel, I won't try to convince you.
Though I wish it were not so.
Re: Pre-Boarding/Staying Behind
A part of me also wishes that were the case. But I'm in too deep now.

This is not goodbye.
Re: Pre-Boarding/Staying Behind
It should be, if you know what is good for you.
